  • Leads in developing and implementing strategic programs to further GYC’s mission, primarily in the Wyoming portion of Greater Yellowstone on public and private lands
  • Coordinates and mobilizes public support around key conservation issues in the Wyoming portion of the GYE
  • Coordinates and conducts GYC meetings and workshops in Wyoming to educate members, community and citizens groups about GYC’s goals and programs
  • Assists the Director of Conservation in organizational management as requested and takes on other leadership responsibilities, as needed, across the organization
  • Works collaboratively with all GYC Coordinators on Wyoming-based lands, waters, and wildlife issues
  • Analyzes and submits comments on proposals that impact the lands, waters and wildlife of Wyoming and, where necessary, prepares administrative appeals and/or legal challenges
  • Serves as a spokesperson on GYC’s programs and issues in Wyoming, addressing public officials, members and supporters, community leaders, the media and the public at large
  • Assists GYC with its legislative agenda at the state and federal levels and develops close working relationships with GYC’s members and other conservation organizations in Wyoming
  • Assists the Development Department in achieving GYC’s fundraising goals through grant writing, foundation solicitation and donor cultivation as needed
  • Supervises Wyoming Conservation Associates
  • Assists Director of Conservation in budget development and annual planning
  • Develops and implements strategies to broaden support and develop conservation leaders in key communities

Desired qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in conservation/advocacy work and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study (experience may substitute for a degree)
  • Familiarity and understanding of public lands, waters and wildlife issues in rural landscapes of the West
  • Experience supervising direct reports and managing campaigns, programs or projects to successful completion
  • Proven managerial skills and leadership qualities in a team based environment
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong public speaking and outreach skills
  • Experience working with state and federal agencies and with legislative bodies
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with rapidly changing and emerging issues and priorities
  • Ability to work well with a broad range of people and constituencies
  • Excellent goal setting and strategic skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in team environments
  • Computer proficiency in PC-based system
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel, primarily in region
  • An understanding and commitment to the mission and goals of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition.
