Type of opportunity: Sheila Bird Farms, Laramie, WY, a certified organic farm, has an internship opportunity available for an interested student from January through April, 2016, to assist in the certification application process for the coming year. This is a good opportunity for an interested student to “get hands dirty” and learn how organic farming certification process works, while developing professional relationships and resume.
Duties: Responsibilities include collecting and compiling application materials in compliance with National Organic Program requirements, transferring information to electronic documents, working with owner/managers to plan and map garden and create updated seed list, communicating with Global Organic Alliance and seed companies to ensure Sheila Bird Farms compliance with NOP requirements, and other as applicable in the certification application process.
Desired qualifications: The intern should possess basic research and computer skills, including use of Word and Excel, attention to detail, familiarity with or interest in learning about public policy and regulations and procedures surrounding organic farming.
Start and end dates: 5 hours/week from mid-January through April, 2016
