Duties: The incumbents perform technical duties primarily concerned with administration and maintenance of OHV trail systems including:

  • Supervising one permanent part-time employee and multiple temporary employees in trail maintenance work on public lands
  • Preparing and submitting OHV grant proposals, maintaining accurate accounting records and reports, and providing detailed closeout documentation (both financial and for accomplishments) for grant funded programs annually
  • Assisting in development of annual work plans for the District OHV programs
  • Planning and coordinating training and certifications for subordinates
  • Preparing and submitting time and attendance reports and travel vouchers for themselves as well as subordinates
  • Supervising volunteers on trail related projects as needed
  • Making contacts with the public to provide information, assistance, education, and for enforcement of Forest Service regulations

Desired qualifications:

  • Both positions require strong trails maintenance and chainsaw operations skills in order to be successful
  • Familiarity with trails planning, design and layout are also a necessity
  • Experience with the operation and maintenance of motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, chainsaws, GPS equipment, trail maintenance tools and other related equipment and facilities
  • Good oral communication skills
