Seasonal Field Botanist, Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest

Duties:

  • Conduct rare plant surveys in support of timber fuels, and range projects
  • Collect monitoring data in sensitive ecosystems such as alpine tundra and wetlands
  • Additional duties may include assisting in the design and implementation of restoration projects, native seed collection, and data entry
  • Opportunities to assist other resource programs such as range and wildlife also exist

Desired qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 24 semester/36 quarter hours of relevant science courses, or one-year (12 months) GS-06 experience
  • At least one field season organizing, implementing, and/or leading survey or sampling efforts for plant species
  • Capable of working in rugged outdoor settings, ability to hike in excess of 10 miles per day
  • Self-motivated under minimal supervision
  • Plant identification skills desired
  • Backcountry experience beneficial
  • Team player with an excellent work ethic preferred
  • Experience with handheld GPS units and ArcGIS desired
  • Job training will be provided to the successful candidate

Start and end dates: Summer 2016

Salary/pay: $19/hour, GS-07
