Type of opportunity: Academic, full time, 9-month appointment

Duties: The selected candidate is expected to nurture a diverse educational experience for students, grounded in the current themes of sustainable thinking, being and action as these relate to opportunities to engage in local, regional and national communities.

Examples of courses may include: Introduction to Sustainability, Introduction to Environmental Science, Issues in Sustainability, Systems Thinking and Sustainability, Leadership, Ethics and Social Responsibility, Sustainable Economics/Business.

Full time teaching load is 30 credit hours or equivalent duties per academic year. Additional responsibilities include student advising, participation in program development and program assessment initiatives, service to the College through committee work, and building of local community partnerships. Collaboration with institutional sustainability initiatives is expected, as is the ability to work and communicate effectively within a multi-campus structure. Weekend, evening and on-line teaching may be required.

Desired qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Sustainability Science, Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Studies, or related field relevant to sustainability. Master’s degree in another field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in previously identified disciplines would also be considered. Doctorate degree preferred.
  • Teaching Experience: minimum of one year full time teaching in higher education or equivalent as part-time instructor at the college level. Experience teaching upper division course work (300/400 level) preferred.
  • Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to sustainability as an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary field focused on positive social change.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging students with the community and facilitating student research endeavors desired.
  • Experience working in community development and organizing also desired.
  • Experience working with students/individuals from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups desired, as well as a demonstrated understanding of the role of a community college.

Start and end dates: August, 2016

Salary/pay:  $57,492 – $74,144 depending upon education and experience.
