Duties: Friends of the Inyo’s Stewardship Crew supports the Inyo National Forest, the Bishop BLM, the Ridgecrest BLM, and other partners by implementing restoration and monitoring programs. The crew works throughout the Eastern Sierra in both front country and backcountry locations. Work will consist of skilled manual labor and technical monitoring including the following:

  • Trail maintenance and improvement, including work with hand and motorized tools, rock and wood, and in a variety of soil types
  • Hiking for extended distances while carrying weights up to 50lbs or more
  • Traveling and camping for multiple days in a both a front and backcountry setting
  • Using handheld GPS and GIS technology
  • Communicating with members of the public
  • Managing and working with volunteer groups of all ages
  • Working with volunteers of all ages
  • Performing demanding physical work in a variety of weather conditions

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must possess a minimum of a High School Diploma
  • Must have the ability to work weekends
  • At least one season maintaining trails or similar work
  • Valid First Aid/ CPR certification with preference given to WFA or WFR
  • Must be comfortable with off-road travel for extended periods of time

Desired qualifications:

  • Ability to perform demanding physical labor for periods up to 10 hours a day
  • Ability to lift weights more than 50lbs regularly and for sustained periods
  • More than one-year experience working on a trail crew
  • Proficiency in dry stone masonry
  • Experience working with a non-profit
  • Ability to operate hand held GPS technology
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully
  • Comfort with 4-wheel drive vehicles and rugged driving situations
  • Certified in Crosscut B-bucking.
