Duties: The Department of Natural Resources and Society at the University of Idaho is seeking M.S. student applicants for a funded student research assistant position as a part of the Bioenergy Alliance Network of the Northern Rockies (BANR). This multi-year, regional scale research effort aims to explore the use of beetle-killed and other forest biomass as a bioenergy feedstock, and provide rigorous scientific underpinnings to support a sustainable regional renewable energy industry.
This position would perform a number of functions as a student member of the social science task group of BANR. The primary focus of this RA position would be 1) the direct, measurable effects of forest policy on management level implementation, and 2) understanding and explaining regional forest policy subsystems.
Desired qualifications: Preferred candidate qualities might include ANY of the following:
- Experience or education in environmental, forestry, or natural resource policy
- Experience or education in natural resource and environmental economics
- Knowledge of or experience in applying GIS applications to policy and management
- Well developed analytical skills, and the ability to write clearly and succinctly
Start and end dates: The funded RA position is for two years (contingent on satisfactory performance) beginning August 2016.
