Duties: Management of the bison herd, including:

  • Daily observation of the herd;
  • Ensuring availability of feed and water;
  • Ensuring stability and maintenance of pasture fencing, including control and corral of any potential escape issues;
  • Assessment of pasture conditions and native forage;
  • Tending to and assisting with any health issues of bison (including roundup of any affected animals);
  • Reporting to the bison representative of daily conditions of the herd and any issues that need to be addressed;
  • Supporting the bison representative’s coordination with the Tribal Council and community;
  • Coordinating with the National Wildlife Federation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Lander Field Office; and
  • Providing tours and assisting with educational awareness for tribal members, supporters, and other local community members.
