Duties: Intern work will include fence construction, irrigation improvements, and general ranch upkeep. Interns will assist in the collection of data pertaining to upland vegetation, grazing utilization, vegetation production, soils, and wildlife.
Desired qualifications: Interns must be able to work outside in variable weather conditions, including squatting and kneeling, for 8-12 hours per day. Be able to follow directions and operate safely in the completion of their duties. Lift and maneuver objects that weigh 50 lbs. Interns must possess the adequate footwear and outerwear to complete daily work. Data may be recorded using electronic means or paper data sheets so penmanship and attention to detail are critical. Proficiency with Microsoft programs is necessary.
Education or experience in rangeland management, natural resources, vegetation monitoring, plant identification, soil science, or wildlife/habitat management. An understanding of plant physiology and basic plant identification including a basic understanding of the wildlife habitat needs of the sagebrush steppe ecosystem. A basic understanding and appreciation of ranching is also preferred. Experience with ArcGIS is not required, but is beneficial. Experience using maps, compasses, and GPS units is preferred.
Start and end dates: Opportunities in summer 2017 and fall 2017
Salary/pay: Pay will be $400.00 per week with housing included. Interns will need to have their own transportation. Will also be responsible for their own meals. Ranch is located approximately 11 miles from Pinedale.
