Organization Overview: Common Outdoor Ground is a growing nonprofit that provides volunteer support for the sustainability of outdoor spaces in Southeast Wyoming. Projects range from building trails, to enhancing wildlife habitat, to cleaning up trash and promoting responsible outdoor ethics. Common Outdoor Ground works with community groups of all types — cyclists, anglers, hikers, hunters, rock climbers, backcountry horsemen, and more — to enhance public lands and expand opportunities for responsible outdoor recreation.

Position Overview: 

Common Outdoor Ground is hiring a personable, motivated, and organized program manager and volunteer coordinator. This position will work cooperatively with local land managers including the United States Forest Service (USFS), City of Laramie, Wyoming State Parks, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to identify needed improvements and plan volunteer events to address them. Partner with fun and passionate land users (campers, climbers, cyclists, hunters and anglers, and more) to get the work done, making loved outdoor spaces more beautiful, accessible, and resilient. In addition to these partnerships, tell the story of Common Outdoor Ground’s work to funders and the community. This position is part time, with 15-25 hours expected per week.

Duties: 

  • Maintain and expand clear and positive relationships with local land managers.
  • Event planning, promotion, and execution (90% outdoor, land-based events) with a focus on safety, productivity, and meaningful connections.
  • Volunteer recruitment, management, and appreciation.
  • Data collection, program evaluation and process improvement.
  • Fundraising (can be a combination of grant-writing, donor engagement, and events).
  • Supervision of other staff as necessary. COG employs seasonal staff at the USFS
  • Centennial Visitor’s Center and may be able to hire additional seasonal help for volunteer events during the summer.

Qualifications: 

  • Nonprofit program and/or volunteer management experience. Strong written and spoken communication.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Attention to detail including safety and risk management.
  • First-aid certification.
  • Experience with trail building, maintenance, fence removal/building, basic familiarity with tools and their safe use.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google products including strong file management skills.
  • Basic graphic design skills (Canva) for online communication.
  • Willingness to learn new things. Professional development opportunities abound.
  • Must be available for weekend and evening volunteer events during the spring, summer, and fall. Actual scheduling can be flexible but depends on when volunteers are available.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued by a recognized United States governmental agency and provide own transportation to events. A vehicle that can transport COG tools is helpful.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to physically lift 40 lbs. and manage COG tools at events.
  • Bachelors degree preferred.

Salary/Pay: Salary based on $16-$20 per hour, depending on experience
