Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow – Landscape Ecologist

Position Overview: The Natural Resource Ecology Lab at Colorado State University is accepting applications for two Postdoctoral Researcher positions: 1) Landscape Restoration Ecologist, 2) Landscape Connectivity Ecologist.

Two postdoctoral or research scientist positions are immediately available (October 2023) with Dr. Julie Heinrichs at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory, Colorado State University. The research projects will focus on developing actionable science to 1) assess the effectiveness of past and ongoing landscape restoration actions, and 2) detect and monitor changes in connectivity to identify opportunities for conservation and restoration at regional and landscape-levels. This research will require expertise in landscape ecology, wildlife conservation, restoration ecology, and developing applied research that can be used by land managers.

Projects will use spatial and quantitative modeling to identify and assess landscape-level strategies to restore and connect ecological sites and conserve wildlife and ecosystems. The ecologists will lead or contribute to projects that: 1) synthesize and assess agency restoration treatments, monitoring, and revegetation outcomes, 2) visualize and analyze the spatial patterns of vegetation cover and wildlife habitat through time, 3) develop spatial and quantitative models to support the conservation of the imperiled sagebrush biome. The ecologists will participate in the co-production of actionable science in support of federal agencies and funding partners.

Duties: 

• Literature review, data gathering, data synthesis, spatial and quantitative modeling.
• The postdoctoral fellow will lead or contribute to developing methods and will be responsible for executing research tasks and manuscript writing in close communication with the supervisor and science team.
• The postdoc will participate in the co-production of actionable science in support of federal agencies and funding partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completed PhD in ecology, conservation, geography or related discipline, plus experience in spatial and statistical analyses.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience manipulating and analyzing large spatial datasets
• R, Python, and other coding skills
• Experience with statistical analysis
• Experience using land treatment and vegetation restoration data in statistical analyses
• Experience applying different types of connectivity analyses

Start/End Dates: October

Salary/Pay: $56,000 – 66,000
