Position Title: Wildlife Technician
Organization: USDA Forest Service
Location: Bridger Teton National Forest
Organization Overview: The West Zone of the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) is comprised of the Greys River and Kemmerer districts, which lie within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE). The Wyoming Range, which runs along the eastern extent of both the Greys River and Kemmerer districts, serves as a natural boundary between the East and West Zones and is home to Wyoming Range Mule Deer, which is one of the state’s focal herds and is the subject of a long-running University of Wyoming research project. The West Zone Wildlife and Habitat Program aims to support each district’s goal to sustain wildlife populations and biodiversity through proper habitat management. In doing so, technicians participate in a variety wildlife and habitat surveys, including: northern goshawk surveys and horizontal cover estimates for snowshoe hare and Canada Lynx habitat; inventorying and monitoring of amphibians, pollinators, pikas, and migratory birds; and administrative studies, which help inform how we can better manage for the future.

Additionally, modeling efforts on the Greys River District are being done to help address questions about how to manage for areas of high ecological value in the face of climate change.
