Summer Internship, CM Ranch

Dubois, WY

Position Title: Summer Intern

Organization: CM Ranch

Location: Dubois, WY

Organization Overview: The CM Ranch is located in historic Dubois, Wyoming, surrounded by the Wind River Range and the Fitzpatrick Wilderness. The CM is one of the 3 oldest dude ranches in Wyoming, being founded by Charlie Moore in 1927. Western Hospitality is on full display at the CM. Both guests and crew will experience the authentic warm and welcoming western cowboy culture which the CM embraces. The CM Ranch welcomes between 30 to 50 guests each week, many of whom are returning guests. Some of these families have been coming for generations. The guest experience includes riding, hiking, fishing and many special activities such as a breakfast ride, Saturday night cookout, Western entertainment, square dancing and the Dubois rodeo on Friday night.

Position Overview: The intern will learn key aspects of running a hospitality business, such as guest reservations and learning the on-line reservation system, handling guest requests, responding to potential guest emails, handling bill payment, organizing office materials, placing orders for different departments, providing guest rosters and guest activity schedules each week and helping with ranch social media. Special projects supporting the office will occur from time to time. (Possibly assembling department handbooks, kids program documentation and schedules, cleaning out and organizing computer folders.)

In addition to a primary position as assistant office manager, the intern will have the ability to serve in other capacities from time to time, such as housekeeping, kitchen crew, hiking guide or maintenance. This will round out the intern’s understanding of key departments at a dude ranch and in the hospitality industry.

There could also be opportunities for the intern to take guests on hikes or assist in the Kid’s program, if the demand occurs, if their office work is covered.

Duties: In housekeeping, the intern will develop organizational and time management skills by completing tasks in specific time frames. In addition, there will be opportunities to respond to special guest requests and also compose daily messages which are left for the guests. Time in housekeeping will help the intern understand the key tasks that a housekeeper must undertake on a daily basis.

As part of the kitchen crew, the intern will work in the kitchen to assist in the set up for meals and set up of the dining room. There could be opportunities to assist in meal prep or assist the baker. The key job is serving the meals, interacting with the guests to meet their special requests, and ensuring the guests have everything they need during the meal, including replenishment of food and drink. The final responsibility is clean-up after the meal. Time on the kitchen crew will give the intern a strong understanding of the provision of food service in a commercial kitchen.

If the intern has skills or background related to maintenance activities or farming/irrigation/hay production, they could assist the maintenance crew from time to time. This could include fixing things that occur in cabins, such as a broken screen, a clogged sink etc. Or, if they have experience, they could help in the fields with irrigation, mending of fences etc.

Qualifications: Basic computer and software skills including word processing and Excel. Ability to easily learn new software programs, such as the reservations system used. Basic knowledge of accounting and finance. Strong interpersonal skills. Marketing/Social Media experience is a plus. Retail sales and guest relations experience is also helpful.

Start/End Dates: Preferred start date: May 15 (can be negotiated). Preferred end date: September 15 (can be negotiated).

Salary/Pay: $1,000/month, in addition, crew members are awarded gratuities from the guests which could range from $1,500 to $2,500 per month. Room and Board are provided at no cost to the crew.
