Position Overview: Coordinate Wyoming’s Recreational Water Quality Notification Programs

Duties: This position will be among numerous professionals working to protect, conserve, and enhance the quality of Wyoming’s water resources for current and future generations. Collaborate with peers within the WDEQ’s Watershed Protection Program and federal, state, and local partners to coordinate the Water Quality Division’s recreational water quality notification programs, including Wyoming’s Harmful Cyanobacterial Bloom (HCB) and Waterborne Pathogen Programs. Assist with development of surface water quality standards. Work with DEQ staff and partners to develop resources and implement strategies to effectively identify, monitor, and educate the public about the health risks associated with HCBs, waterborne pathogens, and other water quality threats the public may encounter during recreational activities. Collect, manage, and analyze water quality data; work on geographic information systems projects; prepare technical documents; participate in state, national, and international working groups; and respond to public inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s (typically in The Sciences)
  • Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in The Sciences) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Natural Resources Specialist
  • Education & Experience Substitution: 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in The Sciences) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Natural Resources Specialist

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferences will be given to applicants with a combination of education and experience demonstrating an ability to develop and implement recreational water quality notification programs; collaborate with partners; collect and manage water quality data consistent with quality assurance and quality control procedures; and demonstrated technical writing skills.
  • Understand concepts of aquatic ecology, hydrology, water quality, recreational water quality notifications, and data quality assurance.
  • Effective written and verbal communication of technical subject matters.
  • Strong computer skills, including GIS.
  • Ability to be resourceful, solve complex problems, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with other personnel.
  • Able to effectively work independently and in a team-based setting, be self-motivated, and have a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to research, summarize information, document work, develop technical documents, and maintain records.
  • Physical working conditions:
    • Day and overnight travel required, most often during summer and fall
    • Walk/hike in varied terrain over moderate distances
    • Wade in flowing water over uneven, soft, or slippery streambeds
    • Bend or kneel while collecting samples
    • Work outdoors in variable weather conditions

Pay: $5,147.99 – $5,719.99 Monthly
