Position Title: Student Trainee (Public Affairs)

Organization: Bureau of Land Management

Location: Multiple [Wyoming locations include Cheyenne and Casper]

Organization Overview: The BLM manages 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 Western states, including Alaska. BLM also administers 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate throughout the nation.

Position Overview: This is an internship under the BLM Pathways Program.

Duties:

  • Works under the close guidance of higher-level specialists and assists with preparation of news releases, briefing packets, brochures, video production, and audio/visuals, internal and external documents.
  • Assists with the production of a broad range of creative, informative print, electronic and digital products.
  • Drafts news releases, articles, or stories on routine events of specific and clearly defined subjects.
  • Participates in a wide variety of public affairs activities and provides clerical support for ongoing public affairs projects and events.
  • Prepares routine informational material in proper format for public distribution either digitally, written or orally.
  • Responds to requests for basic information concerning BLM programs.
  • Assists in coordinating and publicizing community outreach events and provides support and assistance at conferences and other community functions.
  • Assists BLM personnel in preparing for and coordinating public meetings and media coverage of various public relations events.
  • Manages public relations materials and files, makes copies, and performs other clerical tasks.
  • Manages calendars and media lists.
  • Maintains a database to do document media coverage and the tracking of public relations events

Qualifications: This is a career development, excepted service appointment under the BLM Pathways Internship Program that is expected to last more than 1 year. The BLM will require the selected applicant to complete a Participant Agreement in which the selectee must provide an anticipated date for completing all degree program requirements, and show continual progression toward meeting the stated anticipated date.

Salary/Pay: $14.38 – $20.99 (per hour)
