Position Title: Adventure Logistics Coordinator

Position Overview: The Seasonal Adventure Logistics Coordinator is a six month position responsible for the successful implementation of Keystone Science School’s Adventure Programs. The Seasonal Adventure Logistics Coordinator will share responsibility with the Adventure Programs Manager for the day-to-day program operations, and will be responsible for logistics coordination of all adventure programming with support from the Adventure Programs Manager. Adventure programs are 6-12 day adventure sports trips for 5th-12th graders. As part of the Programs team, the Seasonal Adventure Logistics Coordinator will oversee logistics, help the manager organize and develop curriculum, serve as a point of contact to clients, collaborate with other administrative staff, support program needs as they arise, and assist in coaching and mentoring seasonal staff. The Seasonal Adventure Logistics Coordinator may also be responsible as part of an on-call system, with the Climbing Coordinator, to fill an instructor role as necessary for successful programming.
Duties:
The main areas of focus for this position are:
Logistics and Planning (70%)
- Work with Programs Manager to develop and improve programming for all Adventure programs;
- Work with Programs Manager to oversee, plan, and improve logistics and systems for Adventure programs;
- Maintain high standards of health and safety, and follow Risk Management policies in all Camp activities;
- Drive a 15-passenger van and successfully complete Van Driver Training;
- Successfully complete Trailer Training and Drive a 15-passenger van pulling a trailer;
- Support the Programs Manager to manage the budget, including management of a credit card;
- Work with the Camp Chef to create menus, using the KSS menu system, and pack food for all Adventure trips;
- Provide Instructors with the support they need to prepare for trips and outfit students with the gear necessary for safe and successful programming.
Staff Mentorship and Coaching (20%)
- Act as the bridge between seasonal staff and administrative staff to monitor Adventure culture and strive to meet staff needs;
- Provide direct coaching to Adventure Instructors on how to implement program logistics;
- Act as afterhours “on-call” administrative staff to assist in emergencies on a rotating basis;
- Support the Programs Managers and Human Resources in the performance evaluation process for program staff;
- Gather program logistics and systems feedback from seasonal staff;
- Develop and facilitate staff training with support from the Programs Manager.
On-call Responsibilities
- Act as an on-call staff member to assist in an instructor role as needed in the field;
- Coordinate logistics during emergency situations with the Programs Manager;
- On a rotational basis, be available to assist in student/staff evacuations as necessary.
Customer Service (10%)
- Serve as the Seasonal Adventure Logistics Coordinator, which includes serving as a point of contact for clients and staff on opening and closing days of trips regarding logistics;
- Partner with the customer experience team to ensure client needs are properly met and communicated to the staff team and clients;
- Maintain professional relationships with outside contractors and vendors;
- Communicate directly with guardians and other program leads to meet program goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Have an understanding of mobile adventure trip logistics systems, and the ability to adapt systems to the program goals as necessary;

Experience with risk management as it pertains to outdoor education;

Required education, experience, and certifications:
-
Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR certifications, from an approved vendor before the start of employment;

Minimum of 6 months experience in adventure education, with packing group and personal gear for overnight camping and backpacking trips;

Ability to use and repair front and backcountry camping equipment, and the ability to quickly learn how to repair KSS gear to ensure successful programming;

Minimum of 6 months experience with packing food for mobile trips and managing a menu in the field around student and staff dietary needs;

Prior experience working with school-age children: at least three (3) months (460 hours) of full-time or equivalent part-time satisfactory and verifiable experience with school-age children;

Excellent driving record and a valid driver’s license; Candidates age 20+ with a minimum of 4 years driving experience will be required to participate in and pass Van Driver Training, and they will be required to drive a 15-passenger van;

Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive background check.
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree, or 2 years of college training + 6 months of relevant experience;

Ability to properly inspect and maintain camping equipment and camping kitchen equipment, and repair when necessary;

Ability to guide staff on decision making regarding changing logistics in the field;

Equipment familiarity with all aspects of outdoor sport climbing
- This includes, but is not limited to:
- Harnesses
- Helmets
- Dynamic and static rope
- Belay devices
- Slings and webbing
- Quickdraws
- This includes, but is not limited to:

Familiarity with tying knots and hitches related to sport climbing;

Demonstrated awareness of safety practices associated with outdoor climbing crags;

Ability to lift 50 pounds and hike steep terrain with program equipment;

Familiarity with climbing crags associated with the KSS climbing program is a plus but not required;
-
Strong ability to manage groups of youth in climbing situations;

Ability to communicate verbally and teach in Spanish;

Previous experience driving with a trailer;

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Adobe;

Proficiency with Google Drive;
-
Extensive experience on personal backcountry trips.
