Position Title: SER Research Professional I – Community Specialist

Organization: University of Wyoming, School of Energy Resources

Location: Laramie, WY

Position Overview: Work under the guidance of SER Research Professional II or III, Program Manager, Center Director, Senior Director of Research on applied energy research to drive energy-related economic development for Wyoming. This research professional will work within the School of Energy Resources’ Center for Economic Geology Research (CEGR), under the guidance of the Directors of CEGR, and in collaboration with the team of other research professionals in CEGR and the other Centers of Excellence at SER. The position will focus on community engagement and research related to economic, social, cultural, and environmental factors aspects of energy, and other tasks under the auspices of several DOE funded grants. A strong candidate will have a strong interest in evaluating complex social dynamics related to energy. Duties will include the coordination, planning, and management of community-based research and community engagement events, and other related energy-focused social science research.

Duties:

  • Undertake research focused on the intersection of energy and communities using social science methodologies.
  • Conduct energy-related research tasks as requested by supervisor.
  • Present verbally, prepare reports and other materials as needed to communicate the results.
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate complex social dynamics related to energy.
  • Design, coordinate, and implement community-based research projects and community engagement activities, programs, and events.
  • Collection, analyze, and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative social science data.
  • Aid in preparation of scientific reports.
  • Present verbally, prepare reports and other materials as needed to communicate the results.

Qualifications: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Physicist, Geochemist, Economist, Data/GIS/Computer Science, Visualization, social sciences related to energy development, etc.)
  • Valid driver’s license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in social science field, environment and natural resources field, public policy, or other relevant field. ABD acceptable.
  • Several years of professional experience in a relevant field.

Salary/Pay: $65,000 – $90,000
