Position Title: Summer Range Livestock Interns (2 positions)
Organization: Ladder Ranch
Location: Savery, WY
Position Overview: The Ladder Ranch in southern Wyoming, in partnership with UW, is looking for 2 summer range livestock interns to manage a rotational grazing project on a 50,000 acre Forest Service permit near the Colorado-Wyoming border. The project will include day-to-day management of ~600 cow-calf pairs and electric fence paddock design and building. This project could serve as the basis for UW internship credit ideally as an REWM 4540 (Problems) or REWM 4550 (Internship) course (or other courses possible in Animal Science or ENR) and will include measurement of the plant community and animal behavior and foraging. Housing will ideally be in a camp setting with the cattle and a camper and food will be provided. Creative and hard working students are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications: Creative and hard working students are encouraged to apply. Experience in the back country, competent horse riding and packing experience, and working with cattle are preferred.
Start Date: Students will ideally join the team when school ends in the spring to pitch in with branding and gathering to go to the Forest allotment.
Salary/Pay: $1000 per month
