Position Title: Summer Greenhouse & Field Technicians

Position Overview: Seeking applications for greenhouse & field technician positions to conduct ecophysiology and hydrology work in different environments. Projects include but are not limited to field work in the forest of Medicine Bow Mountain Range and/or in the agricultural settings of Maricopa (AZ) during the summer of 2024. All projects are focused on understanding plant water dynamics through high-throughput phenotyping and how groundwater interacts with vegetation serving as refugia for trees during widespread fire and beetle induced mortality events. This position involves work in a wide range of ecosystems and research settings and help maintain environmental monitoring equipment, take data on wild and greenhouse plants, process field data back on campus, and some lab work. Field work will require working in remote, rugged settings and occasionally carrying heavy equipment over uneven terrain. Some field measurements must be taken before dawn and will require early mornings and a flexible schedule. They’re looking for crew members that are enthusiastic about working a full summer and are willing to embrace the challenges that come with working in the mountains as well as in agricultural fields and greenhouse.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least one years of college course work (or equivalent number of credits)
  • A valid driver’s license and a driving record that will pass the motor vehicle records inspection by the University of Wyoming
  • Comfortable working in remote settings without cell service and in adverse weather conditions
  • Experience or interest in working with sensors or electronics
  • Willingness to hike in rough, uneven terrain carrying up to 35 lbs and to engage in prolonged periods of physical work
  • Ability to operate on a flexible schedule that may change on short notice
  • Strong personal motivation and a willingness to maintain a positive, productive attitude under challenging conditions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience conducting field work or using scientific instrumentation
  • Knowledge of the ecology, composition, and dynamics of western forests

Start/End Dates: Summer 2024

Salary/Pay: Minimum $15.00 per hour
