Position Title: Wildlife Management Coordinator
Organization: Wyoming Game & Fish
Location: Casper, WY
Position Overview: The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a Wildlife Management Coordinator in Casper, WY. This position supervises and directs work activities of permanent and temporary employees, planning and conducting studies on the population dynamics of free-roaming wildlife populations.
Duties:
- Writes and implements work plans to achieve implementation of Casper Region terrestrial wildlife goal(s).
- Responsible for reviewing, monitoring, and controlling expenditures from budget(s); assists in the development of budget recommendations.
- Makes recommendations for policies and procedures and implements policies; researches/resolves difficult questions/complaints requiring technical knowledge.
- Recommends hiring, firing, and disciplinary decisions; conducts performance appraisals; trains subordinates and public entities; writes detailed evaluation reports and makes recommendations; responsible for all functions in the work unit.
- Writes detailed technical, investigative, and scientific reports.
- Identifies research needs and performs advanced scientific research.
- Develops long-range plans and strategies that relate to environmental impact.
- Responsible for coordination and participation in annual wildlife population and field harvest data collection, analysis, management recommendations, and annual reporting on game and/or non-game species.
- Oversees the management of an occupational group responsible for all wildlife and terrestrial habitat resources in the Casper Region.
- Develops a fiscal year work plan and schedules with other department supervisors to coordinate projects on a regional or statewide level.
- Responsible for dealing with and solving issues brought forward by the public about wildlife or terrestrial habitat management practices.
- Devises and coordinates wildlife regulation development for multiple species based on scientific information and public input; plans, schedules, conducts and supervises local wildlife research projects.
- Provide wildlife and terrestrial habitat management leadership for the Casper Region.
- Coordinates wildlife captures, including capture methods and chemical immobilization.
- Coordinate with other agencies, department personnel, programs, and/or outside entities; conducts public participation efforts.
- Supervise employees, often remotely, to complete projects and activities.
- Solicits project proposals to benefit regional goals; writes grants for research and management of wildlife.
- Responsible for the work unit to follow all established policies, regulations, statutes, and procedures.
- Responsible for the development, review, and editing of procedures manuals.
- Reviews biological data, inspects and evaluates site location, and reviews development plans for projects to determine if the projects are viable and feasible.
- Solicits bids, submit purchase requisitions, makes purchases, and submits invoices for payment. Follows all fiscal procedures and accurately completes all necessary forms.
- Oversees the habitat biologist within the region; helps plan and administer wildlife habitat improvement projects and analyze ecological habitat data.
- Supervises district wildlife biologists, habitat biologist, and technicians to facilitate routine wildlife habitat management within the region.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Wildlife Management)
- 1-3 years progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management)
- CDL may be required
OR - Education & Experience Substitution:
- 4-7 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management)
- CDL may be required
Salary/Pay: $38.99 – $43.32 Hourly $6,757.91 – $7,508.79 Monthly
