Position Overview: The primary focus of this position is planning, delivering, coordinating, and evaluating technical assistance programs, which build the capacity of individuals and organizations across Colorado to address environment, energy justice, and clean energy priorities. The Community Resource and Engagement Specialist (CRES) is one of a team of five full-time, community-facing staff central to the mission of the Mountains and Plains Thriving Communities Collaborative (MaPTCC). This full-time, year-round professional position is funded by a subaward to CSU from a 5-year cooperative agreement between the US EPA and Montana State University, with the Center for Environmental Justice at Colorado State University designated as a subawardee. Central to this role will be the ability to engage and partner with local Colorado communities to co-create strategies to address challenges and access funding and technical assistance to build capacity.

Duties:

  • Deliver programming for the range of program participants that builds their grantsmanship, project management, financial planning and sustainability as well as social, civic, economic and leadership capacities.
  • Help MaPTCC training leaders and program staff assess environmental justice, energy justice and related needs, determine program priorities.
  • Connect communities with additional technical, grant, legal, and scientific resources such as decision-makers within government, advocacy, and academia; federal and foundation grants; and pro bono legal support.
  • Build and support local, regional and statewide collaboration networks that support addressing EJ challenges and respond more quickly to opportunities
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings for communities and potential experts and organizations.
  • Manage travel and materials budgets for this role
  • Track work in project databases, collect data and feedback to help monitor and evaluate outcome-based programs.
  • Attend relevant cohort meetings and communicate with project partners
  • Work effectively on an ongoing basis to establish relationships and build program awareness among a range of clientele in Colorado.
  • Connect frontline communities, non-profits, and under-resourced government agencies (including tribes and tribal governments) with our volunteers for community-driven projects, including problem-solving meetings, research and reporting, and comprehensive actionable emails.
  • Produce webinars, training events, templates (including grant templates), and other capacity-building tools so that additional communities can benefit from our work.
  • Broadly share findings formally and informally.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, political science, environmental justice, environmental science, human development and family studies, applied community development, community or natural resource economics, business, public policy, planning and/or administration, equity and social justice, or a closely related field OR an equivalent amount of education and/or professional experience.
  • Experience with technical writing, grantsmanship and project management, preferably including those involving federal agencies.
  • Skills for group facilitation or teaching with adult learners.
  • Good communication skills with experience establishing communication channels and networks.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders to collaborate on adaptive challenges.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs.
  • Experience working directly with rural and underserved communities, governments, and community-based or non-profit organizations.
  • Bilingual and/or bicultural skills.
  • Strong public speaking and stakeholder engagement experience.
