Position Overview: As the first appointee to this new role, in a growing organization, this Director will lead on managing elements central to the success of the organization, and advancing the expansion of the Centre’s initiatives to help support business to drive action against climate change. This will include the implementation of an integrated organization development strategy, working with and supporting our members and partners, expanding the sources of financial support for the activities of the Centre; and promoting and broadening the visibility and reputation of the Centre worldwide. As part of a small Senior Leadership Team, they will work close with both the CEO and the policy Director responsible for Advice, Knowledge and Capacity Building

Duties:

  1. Driving Business Engagement in Climate Action:
  • Oversee development of the flagship ‘Business for Climate (B4C) initiative to help support business and industry to drive meaningful climate action.
  • Provide leadership to the development, management, and research workstreams under the initiative.
  • Guide a small project team to deliver milestone and longer term objectives.
  • Lead enhanced engagement with high level global business and industry leaders to ensure the initiative delivers what is needed, and they engage with its development and delivery.

2. Management of Centre and Internal Coordination:

  • Administer everyday functions for the Centre, and coordinate with the wider senior management team, to prepare long-term strategies to achieve goals, including the establishment and global enforcement of standards, processes, and policies;
  • Lead (supported by other senior managers) to deliver essential internal activities: human resources (recruiting, reviews, staff deployment/workload balancing, career progression), administration, and organizational planning, and promote cooperation between the team members to strengthen CEMUNE’s global impact;
  • Monitor the overall performance management, quality assurance, and change management across the organization and provide regular inputs and recommendations to ensure its effective implementation and continuous improvement;
  • Identify best practices and improve internal systems (budgeting/finance duties) with an eye toward future needs and budget realities, ensuring that the Centre responds to external challenges, risks, and opportunities;
  • Oversee a small but highly performing team focused on delivering funding and ensuring effective engagement with the ‘Global Circle’ of partners to the Centre.

3. Acquisition and Delivery of Advice and Capacity Building Programmes, where
required, working closely with the policy Director. 

This may include:

  • Engagement with potential partners to assess potential partnerships;
  • Facilitation of negotiation trainings;
  • Managing advice projects, e.g. for Presidencies and Chairs of multilateral processes and groups.

Qualifications:  Essential – Professional experience of engaging with senior (ideally C-suite) leaders from global business and industry. Knowledge of multilateral and international policy processes is key, ideally in climate and environment, as well experience in geopolitical, development, and multi-stakeholder contexts; experience building up organizations and running efficient and effective central services; and strong management and strategic experience, with a proven track record of leading teams.

Delivering results: Essential – Develops and manages projects, programmes, and performance cycles and can lead fundraising strategies, partnerships, and activities with the donor community.

Communicating with impact: Essential – Communicates impactfully in different settings: representational, negotiation, media, and networking.

  • Builds teams and individuals diverse in gender, nationality, and background, managing with equality, inclusiveness, and respect to lead improvement and change to achieve organizational results effectively;
  • Clear commitment to fostering a culture of integrity and trust, transparency, professionalism, high performance, and accountability, demonstrated in the ability to manage by results, differentiate performance, assertively give feedback, and take decisive action when necessary;
  • Experience in identifying critical issues in a complex situation and consulting, gathering, and analyzing relevant information before proposing and implementing decisive measures or recommendations.

Educational Background: Desirable – Advanced University Degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in international relations, business management, sustainable development, public administration, project management, economics, or relevant social sciences.

Language skills: Excellent verbal and written English. (Desirable – Knowledge of other languages).
