Position Title: Fish & Wildlife Biologist

Duties:
- Plans, evaluates, conducts a wide variety of complex ecological investigations or inspections involving complex land and water resource development projects, proposals and/or license applications/renewals to determine their impact upon fish and/or wildlife resources and habitats and to ensure that legal standards and other requirements are met and implemented in a manner most beneficial to fish and/or wildlife resources.
- Recommends ways to minimize or eliminate impacts to listed species, as well as alternatives that will avoid jeopardizing the continued existence of a species or avoid destroying or adversely modifying critical habitat.
- Develops comprehensive fish and/or wildlife mitigation or management plans to ensure preservation, protection, and enhancement of fish and/or wildlife and their habitat for a geographic area having a variety of habitat conditions.
- Maintains contact and communication with biologists throughout the assigned Region and with other agencies (Federal, Tribal, and state) that have endangered species programs.
Qualifications: In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.
Basic Requirement:
- Possess a bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR
- Possess a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major in the biological sciences (at least 24 semester hours) as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in the biological sciences, agriculture, or natural resources management or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
Minimum Qualification [GS-9]:
- One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-7 in the Federal service. Experience may include: assisting with conducting biological surveys for wetland or grassland systems; reviewing biological portions of environment assessment/impact statements or resource planning reports; providing customer service by responding to inquiries regarding biological laws and regulations; conducting habitat evaluations to ensure conservation, protection, and enhancement of project impacts. OR
- Possess two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree in biological sciences, wildlife biology, ecology, or a directly related field appropriate to this position. OR
- A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement.
Minimum Qualification [GS-11]:
- One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-09 in the Federal service. Experience may include: conducting habitat evaluations for specific plant and wildlife species; preparing written reports documenting biological conditions on a specific site or sites; evaluating project impacts on habitats and/or specific plant or wildlife species; and/or leading a team of biologists to conduct field related habitat surveys or biological surveys. OR
- Possess three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree at an accredited college or university in biological sciences, wildlife biology, ecology, or a directly related field appropriate to this position. OR
- A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement.
Salary/Pay: $59,966 – $94,317 per year
