Position Title: Research Scientist Assoc
Organization: Merkle Research Group
Location: Laramie, WY
Position Overview: Research Scientists are academic professionals whose primary responsibilities are to conduct and support research. UW Regulation 2-7 describes the activities that fall into this set of responsibilities for faculty; the same definition of research applies to Academic Professionals.
Duties:
- Conduct field necropsies on adult and juvenile mule deer to determine cause of mortality
- Complete habitat surveys
- Manage data in Program R, Microsoft products (including SQL) and Google platforms
- Complete sophisticated analyses in Program R, Python, JAGS or other suitable programming language
- Author at least one manuscript suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed journal
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with partners and team members on all tasks
Qualifications:
- Masters of Science degree in wildlife management, ecology, range management or other natural resource field.
- Proficiency in Program R.
- Valid driver’s license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
- Experience working with GPS collar data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Products and Google platforms.
- Experience conducting advanced spatial analyses.
- Experience working with federal partners such as entities within the Department of the Interior (e.g., USGS) and the Department of Agriculture (e.g., Wildlife Services)
- Ability to understand and write highly technical data.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain laboratory/field equipment.
- Experience conducting field work

Salary/Pay: $55,000-60,000
