Position Title: Research Scientist Assoc

Organization: Merkle Research Group

Location: Laramie, WY

Position Overview: Research Scientists are academic professionals whose primary responsibilities are to conduct and support research. UW Regulation 2-7 describes the activities that fall into this set of responsibilities for faculty; the same definition of research applies to Academic Professionals.

Duties:

  • Conduct field necropsies on adult and juvenile mule deer to determine cause of mortality
  • Complete habitat surveys
  • Manage data in Program R, Microsoft products (including SQL) and Google platforms
  • Complete sophisticated analyses in Program R, Python, JAGS or other suitable programming language
  • Author at least one manuscript suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with partners and team members on all tasks

Qualifications:

  • Masters of Science degree in wildlife management, ecology, range management or other natural resource field.
  • Proficiency in Program R.
  • Valid driver’s license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Experience working with GPS collar data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Products and Google platforms.
  • Experience conducting advanced spatial analyses.
  • Experience working with federal partners such as entities within the Department of the Interior (e.g., USGS) and the Department of Agriculture (e.g., Wildlife Services)
  • Ability to understand and write highly technical data.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain laboratory/field equipment.
  • Experience conducting field work
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain laboratory/field equipment

Salary/Pay: $55,000-60,000
