Position Title:PhD Student Position at The Bergstrom Watershed Biogeochemistry Lab

Position Overview: The student will be co-advised by Dr. Anna Bergstrom at Boise State University and Dr. Adam Price at the US Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station. We seek a motivated student to study how forest harvest and management practices impact snowpack development and retention as well as soil moisture dynamics. This research will be located in the US Forest Service Starkey Experimental Forest and Range located in the Blue Mountains in north eastern Oregon. The project will involve extensive field data collection, quantitative analysis, and interaction with stakeholders. The student will be admitted through the Geosciences Department at Boise State University. This position is fully funded and includes summer support. The Bergstrom lab, and this project in particular, is interdisciplinary and we encourage students across backgrounds (geology, engineering, natural resources) to apply. The candidate should be self-motivated and have a strong desire to learn and work outside their traditional area of expertise. Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: (i) Undergraduate degree in a STEM field (ii) Experience with scientific coding and data management (iii) Proficiency in oral and written communication in English. 

Preferred Qualifications: (i) Master’s degree in hydrology, forestry, critical zone science, snow science, or closely related field (ii) experience with field work, particularly winter field travel (iii) experience with data loggers and maintenance of field instrumentation and meteorological stations (iv) demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team. 

Start/End Dates: begin in Fall 2025

Salary/Pay: This position is fully funded and includes summer support
