Position Title: Ph.D student and a Master student with assistantships in social/physical dimensions of flood hazards

Location: Tuscaloosa, AL

Position Overview: The research group Risk Decision Making at the Department of Geography & the Environment at the University of Alabama is accepting applications for a Ph.D student and a Master student with research assistantships, in social/physical dimensions of flood hazards. The assistantship provides a stipend plus tuition remission.

Duties:  The successful applicant will work with me and Dr. Steven Burian at the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering and the Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology and will be involved in projects focused on flood hazards in the U.S. Gulf Coast region.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates should have a Bachelor’s (for Master student) and Master’s (for Ph.D student) degrees in Geography, GIS, Geosciences, Environmental Studies/Sciences, Planning, Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Candidates should have a strong interest in the intersection of social and physical dimensions of hazards and be eager to work in an interdisciplinary environment. Experience in quantitative data analysis, survey design, GIS, programming are desired. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
