Position Title: Environmental Technician (Seasonal)

Organization: EcoPoint

Location: Multiple Locations: Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, Wyoming, New Mexico

Position Overview: Working under the direction of the Senior Environmental Technician, conduct eld scouting research, data collection, and seed collecting activities. These efforts are contracted to
EcoPoint, Inc. to support the BLM’s Seeds of Success (SOS) Program. SOS is a program
coordinated by the BLM to support seed collections from native plant populations to conserve
and develop native plant materials for stabilizing, rehabilitating and restoring lands in the United
States. Duties include assisting in the eld to scout populations, collect seed, conduct surveys,
collect and process plant specimens, plant identification, data collection, preparation of eld
forms and reports, data entry and labeling of eld collections, seed processing, seed testing,
and preparation of seeds for storage.

Qualifications:

● Coursework towards a degree in the biological sciences required; Bachelor of Science in
botany, biology, or equivalent environmental science preferred.
● Ability to work successfully with others, and work independently with minimal
supervision is critical.
● Strong writing and verbal skills, the ability to type, and computer skills (word processing,
databases, and simple graphics) are essential.
● Ability to use GIS/GPS equipment and read/navigate with topographic maps.
● Familiar with plant taxonomy, including formal class and eldwork in plant taxonomy and
plant identification of western US species
● Ability to collect data electronically using a smart phone (provided)
● Demonstrated ability to work independent of supervision
● Excellent time management, record keeping, administrative, and communication skills
● Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
● Bachelor’s degree or higher with an emphasis in botany, forestry, ecology or related eld
● Experience navigating o-road terrain in remote areas using 4×4 equipment

Salary/Pay: $18-23/hr
