Position Title: Conservation Manager

Organization: Wyoming Stock Growers Land Trust

Location: Cheyenne, WY

Position Overview: The ideal candidate is passionate about conserving agricultural land, wildlife habitats, and open spaces. The Conservation Manager will further the mission of the land trust by managing conservation easement projects. The position will have a secondary responsibility to assist with stewarding existing conservation easements. The position requires an individual with initiative, the ability to work independently, and the ability to manage a workload with multiple, often competing, priorities and deadlines. This position will contribute to the land trust’s success in accelerating the pace and scale of conservation, investing in rural communities, and keeping Wyoming’s agricultural lands intact.

Duties:

  • Manage a portfolio of conservation easement projects
  • Work directly with landowners to identify conservation goals and to overcome project
    challenges;
  • Coordinate and/or complete project due diligence including baseline
    document report drafting, appraisals, mineral assessments, etc. with
    contractors, landowners, land trust staff, and other partners;
  • Obtain and review title commitments and associated deeds, legal
    descriptions, ownership documents, and encumbrances on title;
  • Draft and negotiate deeds of conservation easements and other transactional documents;
  • Work with land trust staff to raise public and private funds to meet project needs;
  • Manage conservation easement closings and post-closing tasks; and
  • Keep databases and files up to date.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external requirements, including alignment with the Land Trust Alliance’s Standards and Requirements.
  • Compose reports and serve as staff to the Board of Directors Conservation Committee.
  • All other duties as assigned. This may include, but is not limited to, assisting with
    communications, planning and executing events, supporting meetings, and
    assisting in annual monitoring of existing conservation easements, and vehicle
    maintenance. We are a small, assiduous team that is supportive of all areas of the
    land trust’s work.
  • Promote and further the mission of the land trust.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in natural resources, conservation, real estate, or similar industries.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills rooted in teamwork, diplomacy, and respect with a commitment to working collaboratively.
  • Personal reliability and demonstrated ability to manage various projects with
    accuracy and attention
  • Experience writing, managing, and reporting on public and private grants.
  • GIS experience necessary, drone experience desirable.
  • Excellent computer skills. MS Office required, database management desirable.
  • Able to think strategically, stay accountable to deadlines and teammates, manage confidential information, and adopt innovative approaches in response to changing circumstances.
  • Demonstrates integrity and ability to exercise confidentiality and sound judgment.
  • Familiarity in real estate transactions including appraisals, title work, due diligence, and
    closings.
  • Enthusiasm for and willingness to travel extensively in Wyoming’s rural and rugged landscapes.
  • Expect regular overnight travel, particularly during the summer months.
  • ATV experience is helpful. Valid driver’s license required.

Salary/Pay: $62,000 – $72,000 annually
