Position Title: GIS/GPS Technician

Organization: Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory 

Location: Crested Butte, CO

Position Overview: RMBL is hiring a seasonal GIS/GPS technician to support scientific and educational activities during the summer season. RMBL’s GIS program provides spatial tools and information to our community of scientists to help them conduct high-quality research.

Duties:

• Maintain GPS equipment and manage GPS data generated by staff, students, and

• Offer GPS training sessions for RMBL scientists.

• Organize and lead GPS and ArcGIS training workshops for the undergraduate education program.

• Conduct GPS data collection and/or map making for RMBL staff as needed.

• Assist with spatial data processing tasks including drone imagery processing.

• Participate in other research support activities.

Qualifications:

• Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively train and educate people with diverse backgrounds and experience.

• Previous experience with GIS software required, experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and scientific programming (R/Python) preferred.

• The ability to physically navigate a rustic worksite and infrastructure, including uneven terrain, steep hills, gravel trails, deep snow, and other hazards, including in bad weather.

• The ability to lift and move up to 50lbs.

• A clean driving record and the ability to safely operate vehicles

Start/End Dates: Approximately May 1 to August 31, with some flexibility depending on applicant’s schedule. Applicants should expect full-time commitment for June and July, approximately half time for May and August.

Salary/Pay: $20 – $23 depending on experience
