Position Title: Operations Assistant

Organization: Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory

Location: Crested Butte, CO

Position Overview:  RMBL seeks a Full-Time Operations Assistant to support the administrative, logistics, and operational functions at RMBL. The position will be open until filled and will be for a full-time, year-round employee. The position will work 5-day 40 hour/week schedule. The ideal candidate is interested in field station management as a career, likes being hands-on, has experience with database management, enjoys working with the public, and can work independently. RMBL encourages a diverse applicant pool.

Duties:

Administration and Operations

  • Serves as the “front face” of RMBL and primary point of contact for the scientific community, fielding questions and routing requests for support.
  • Works closely with the Operations Manager and other staff to respond to users concerns, emergencies, and other aspects of community life at RMBL.
  • Assists in user and database management. Much of this activity will be conducted on the Salesforce platform.
  • Participates in cabin opening and closing campaigns in the spring and fall, including deep cleaning and organization efforts.
  • Checks in/out guests to the field station including giving orientation tours, answering questions, and conducting room check-outs.
  • Provides logistical support to the 40 undergraduate students enrolled in the RMBL Education Program and its staff.
  • Shares on-call duties during the research season for after-hours support and weekend emergencies.• Helps with execution and planning of private events, workshops, and conferences.
  • Coordinates with other departments including the Dining Hall, Facilities, Youth Programs, Development, and Research.
  • Assists users with meeting presentations and the use of IT equipment, sometimes after hours.
  • Thinks creatively and aids the Operations Manager with projects and ideas for increasing efficiency in operations.
  • Coordinates, schedules, orients, and trains users on basic scientific equipment in the Gothic Research Center and other laboratories and classrooms.
  • Supports the RMBL Board of Trustees with taking minutes, meeting scheduling, trip and agenda planning, surveys, communication, meeting logistics, and other miscellaneous tasks.
  • Supports the RMBL Executive Director as requested with administrative, logistical, and communication projects.

GENERAL

  • Supports and fills-in for other departments when needed, including cleaning, work crew (facilities), food service, events, development, the visitor center and science support services.
  • Inventory management and ordering of first aid, office, and cleaning supplies.
  • Website management
  • Assists in parking policy enforcement.
  • Room set-up for events/seminars/classes.
  • Assists in asset scheduling and management.
  • Corresponds regularly with RMBL users via email and phone

Qualifications:

  • Friendly, outgoing, and service-oriented personality.
  • Willingness to serve wherever is needed.
  • Organized and maintains a clean work area
  • Computer skills and the ability to learn and operate new computer programs.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Microsoft Teams, WordPress, or Constant Contact a plus
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to physically negotiate a rustic worksite and infrastructure, including uneven terrain, steep hills, gravel trails, deep snow, and other hazards, including in bad weather.
  • The ability to lift and move up to 50lbs.
  • A clean driving record and the ability to safely operate vehicles, including bikes and ORVs.

Salary/Pay: $53k starting salary
