Job Title: Public Affairs Specialist

Organization: Bureau of Land Management – High Plains District

Location: Casper, Wyoming

Duties: The incumbent performs a wide variety of assignments designed to enhance the public’s understanding of BLM programs, to assess public reaction to BLM activities, and to evaluate the effectiveness of communication materials and programs. Work may involve responding to media questions, developing informational materials, and developing portions of comprehensive communications plans. The incumbent is responsible for the timely dissemination of accurate and balanced information about BLM programs, activities, and responsibilities to diverse audiences, utilizing both traditional communication channels as well as digital and new media platforms. Assignments will be designed to prepare the incumbent for the GS-12 level.

To qualify at the GS-11 level applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the federal service; OR 3 full years of graduate-level education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or LL.M., if related; OR a combination of the education and experience described above. Specialized experience is defined as experience in advising management on policy formulation and the potential public reaction to the proposed policy, where identifying communication needs and developing information materials is required. Experience using the range of communication platforms. Accurately identifying internal and external target audiences to share information and displaying exemplary writing skills in AP style. Experience must be in or related to public lands, natural resource management programs, and multiple use.

Start/End dates: Full-time

Salary/pay: $64,009 to $83,210 per year.
