As an academic department at Colorado State University, they conduct research in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources and prepare students for careers in conservation and tourism. This area of study focuses on connecting the social sciences to biological and physical sciences through integrated frameworks. Natural resource issues are complex and require an understanding of human-natural system interactions to reach effective solutions that sustain livelihoods, nature based tourism, and the environment.

Position Overview: The person in this position will teach three to four graduate and/or undergraduate level courses per academic year, in areas related to the Department of HDNR programs and curricula. These areas will include environmental conflict management as well as conservation and environmental governance, and/or other related topics based on the expertise of the successful applicant and the needs of the Department. In addition, this person will develop and conduct a research program related to the mission of the Department of HDNR, with a focus on conservation, sustainability, and related areas. Finally, this person will participate in departmental, college, and university governance and maintain a program of service and outreach both internal and external to the university consistent with the mission of the Department of HDNR, Warner College of Natural Resources, and Colorado State University.

Duties: 

  • Develop and conduct a research program related to the mission of the Department of HDNR.
  • Maintain a program of service and outreach both internal and external to the university consistent with the mission of the Department of HDNR, Warner College of Natural Resources, and Colorado State University.
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate level courses, both on-campus and distance (on-line) in determined areas related to the Department of HDNR programs and curricula.

Qualifications:

  • Completed PhD in areas related to the Human Dimensions of Natural Resources; such as conservation, sustainability, policy, and political science, or other related fields by the anticipated start date.

Start Date:  August 16, negotiable

Salary/Pay: $72,500 – $75,000
