Position Title: Seasonal Park Ranger Internships
Organization: Lucky Peak State Park
Location: Boise, ID
Position Overview: Each internship is made up of Generalist Park Ranger duties and a Park Ranger Specialist Option. Specialist options include Interpretation or Compliance Enforcement Officer. Further descriptions of each can be found in the full job description.
Duties:
- Building and Grounds Maintenance: maintains park facilities and grounds to ensure resource preservation and visitor safety. Including Janitorial services, minor repair of facilities and equipment; lawn mowing, trimming and irrigation. Performs a variety of basic craft activities to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry. Operates and repairs vehicles, trucks, mowers, groomers, backhoes, and hand and power tools.
- Clerical: Keeping required records and files, preparing correspondence and reports, or filing and compiling data for reports as directed.
- Resource Management: Park and recreation rule compliance, and conflict resolution of visitor and user issues. Inventorying and monitoring plants and wildlife, analyzing and uploading data recorded, treating noxious weeds.
- Marina Duties: Fueling Boats and providing other assistance to boaters. Directing traffic within parking lot areas. Dock repairs and maintenance.
- Visitor Services: maintaining positive public relations, and engagement through interpretative and experiential programming. Maintaining park publication inventory, displays, and Shelter Reservations; responding to information requests from management, staff and visitors; providing information in person and via email, and phone.
- Retail: handling money including balancing and closing cash register; completing sales transmittals and making bank deposits.
Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and adhere to uniform policies. All positions involve working evenings, weekends, and holidays, in all weather conditions, and with potentially caustic materials and pesticides. It also involves lifting items weighing 40 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds, bending, stooping, and climbing ladders. Preferred but not required: standard First-Aid and CPR certification. These positions may also include supervisory duties of seasonal park aides.
Start/End Dates: Flexible but are expected to be between May and September
Salary/Pay: $14-18 per hour
