Position Title: Land of the First Light Fellowship
Organization: Native Land Conservancy (NLC)
Location: Mashpee, MA
Organization Overview: The Native Land Conservancy has a mission to preserve healthy landscapes for all living things and help restore land back to its original state wherever possible. NLC was founded in 2012 in Mashpee, Massachusetts, and is the first Native-run land conservation group east of the Mississippi.
Position Overview: 10-week, 35 hour/week program based from the NLC office, the program will focus teachings and work on land protected within the ancestral homelands of the Wampanoag, people of the first light. The fellowship opens up pathways to diverse careers in conservation for rising Native Americans.
Duties:
- Develop a project on an applied topic related to land conservation
- Weekly check-in with the Executive Director of the NLC, Diana Ruiz, Ph.D. and peer fellows
- Attend excursions for fellows
Qualifications: (preferred and minimum) To be eligible for this opportunity, you must be a member of a Native American tribal group and between the ages of 18 – 25
Start/End Dates: June 20 – August 25
Salary/Pay: $6000 stipend, support for housing and travel
