Position Title: Front-of-House Hospitality Internship

Organization Overview: Sweetgrass Ranch, comprising of nearly 6,000 acres of the Western Black Hills is located 45 miles Northeast of Gillette, Wyoming and is accessible by car, commercial or private aircraft.  It’s surrounded by 40,000 acres of national and state forest service land. The Sweetgrass compound centers around a newly renovated 4,000 sq. ft. Rendezvous event center with an 1800s era antique bar, retail store and commercial kitchen. Also on the property are accommodations in 21 private rooms. A 7,800 sq. ft. Lodge, 5 cabins, a 26,000 sq. ft. equestrian facility, greenhouse, culinary garden and apiary. The Covey Conference Center with state of the art meeting facilities, a dining room and wine cellar will open in the Summer of 2023.

An outdoor enthusiast’s playground, Sweetgrass ranch maintains 56 sporting clays throwers on a course designed by professional sporting clays competitors and Promatic. A handgun and rifle flat range and 3 gun range, as well as, an archery flat range and walking course with 3D targets provide something for nearly all hunting enthusiasts. Well stocked ponds with warm water fish, hiking trails, hundreds of miles of ATV touring trails, and guided horseback riding.

Position Overview: As an intern in the hospitality team at Sweetgrass Ranch, you’ll get hands-on experience in all facets of front-of-house operations. You’ll be trained in offering 5-star quality restaurant service, as well as providing service for rustic backwoods chuckwagon dinners and off-premise catering-style for in-the-field lunches. You’ll get to work in different venues on the property, such as the formal conference center, multiple rustic field tents, and various outdoor patios and gardens. Moreover, you’ll learn skills in managing guest arrivals and departures, guest lodging and concierge services, and assisting in their retail center, providing valuable experience in all areas of hospitality.

Qualifications: You will have the opportunity to learn and develop skills that include a high level of attention to detail and the ability to multitask. You will also enhance your communication and interpersonal skills, and learn how to work effectively in a team environment. You must be adaptable to work in all weather conditions and climates. A willingness to embrace the daily operations of a working ranch, which includes the humane raising, harvesting, and preparation of animals for consumption, as well as being comfortable around hunting weapons, is also necessary.

Start/End Dates: August 13- November 20

Salary/Pay: For your stay with Sweetgrass, you will receive competitive wages, performance-based gratuities, and end-of-season bonuses. They provide full room and board, including bunkhouse-style lodging and chef-prepared meals for the duration of your stay. Uniforms will be provided, including shirts, vests, aprons, bandanas, name tags, and cowboy hats. They will also provide full training and tours of the ranch, as well as opportunities for additional activities and events, such as ATV rides, horseback riding, sporting clay range time, weekly group BBQs, end of season parties, and lots of fun things to do during downtime.
