Position Title: Field Education Program Coordinators

Organization Overview: For over fifty years, Teton Science Schools have connected learners of all ages to their backyards, America’s national parks and the world by inspiring curiosity, engagement and leadership through transformative place-based education.

Position Overview: Field Education Program Coordinators work with trip leaders of youth, family and adult groups to customize field science programs in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Coordinators also train and coach field educators who may be full time instructors or AmeriCorps members. Coordinators also manage the logistics and administrative work of the Field Education team. The administrative work includes a programmatic focus area. There are two positions, one with a focus area of summer day programs, and one with a focus area of youth programs at the Kelly Campus.


  • Hosting Educational Programs

    • Work with visiting groups to develop customized, high-quality, place-based education programs.

    • Facilitate the growth of educators through all aspects of programming including meetings and debriefs.

    • Complete administrative duties necessary for high quality programs and efficient customer service including resource management, scheduling and program logistics.

  • Focus Area

    • Manage Field Education’s summer day programs and all supporting systems. Refine and implement dynamic and varied summer day camp programs and curriculum, with a strong focus on play-based learning, field science immersion, front-country camping experiences, and nature-based programs.

  • Educator Development

    • Coach field educators to develop and refine pedagogical, instructional, and leadership skills.

    • Plan and implement onboarding, training and professional development for field educators to provide place-based programming in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks that increases scientific literacy, understanding of place and leadership skills.

  • Field Education Support

    • Serve as a member of a Field Education coordinator team focused on curriculum and instruction, operations, or staffing systems.

    • Serve in the coordinator on-call rotation for Field Education.

    • Support and assist in the management of Field Education systems including food service, gear, hands to work, registration, operations, campus systems and marketing.

  • One TSS Responsibilities

    • Actively cross market TSS to all program participants and support offsite marketing efforts.

    • Actively seek opportunities for internal and external collaboration through programs, resources, curriculum and staff to efficiently and effectively support the mission of TSS.

    • Contribute to inclusive work and learning environments through continually developing cultural competency. Cultural Competence is one’s ability to interact effectively across various dimensions of diversity. It lies at the intersection of awareness of others, self-awareness, and applying skills & knowledge to promote inclusion and equity

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: 

  • Primarily based at the Kelly or Jackson Campus of Teton Science Schools with potential meetings/interactions/work on all campuses locations

  • Primarily indoors in an office setting: sitting and standing for long stretches while using a computer

  • Stretches of time outdoors in all weather, including extreme temperatures and arid conditions

  • Ability to facilitate programming and manage risk on high course elements that may include climbing, rescuing, and aiding participants at heights.

  • May be expected to work evenings, holidays or weekends to support programs and events

  • Carry a backpack of 20+ lbs for 8 hours a day over uneven terrain

  • Time spent hiking/camping in front- and back-country settings

  • Able to drive 15 passenger vans for extended periods (up to 10 hours per day)


  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in education and in the workplace

  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching in a combination of formal (K-12) and informal (outdoor/environmental education) settings

  • Experience coaching educators on best practices when working with early elementary aged students.

  • Ability to manage risk and make leadership decisions in front and backcountry settings

  • Experience teaching or managing summer camps/programs or similar experiences for early elementary aged students.

  • Organizational and prioritization skills

  • Familiarity with Google Apps

Salary/Pay: Depends on Experience
