Position Title: Environmental GIS Specialist

Position Overview: Peabody is currently seeking an Environmental GIS Specialist to join the Environmental Services team at the Caballo Coal Mine in Gillette WY. This position provides spatial analysis, data management, and mapping products to support Peabody’s Western Operations.
Duties:
- Responsible for collecting, creating, and maintaining database information to support mapping and technical assessments for permit applications, revisions, amendments, and annual reports with the goal of meeting regulatory performance standards and minimizing operation costs.
- Create data from a variety of electronic and hard copy sources to support multi-disciplinary projects.
- Perform GIS analysis functions to enable data analysis and generate maps and reports.
- Develop tools and programs to automate GIS related tasks.
- Update and create GIS and AutoCAD maps.
- Maintain data synchronization between GIS and AutoCAD.
- Perform quality control of all data, including spatial alignment, attribute checks, topology validation, and other quality control measures to ensure accuracy.
- Provide mapping and GIS application support and training to Operations, Technical Services, and Land business functions.
- Other permitting support duties dependent on the successful candidate’s experience.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems or Geography. Other degrees such as a Bachelors in Geosciences, Environmental Science, Rangeland Management, Vegetation Ecology, or similar will be considered for applicants with significant experience or training in GIS.
- 2 + years of GIS related work experience is desired.
- Vegetation Ecology or Rangeland Management experience is desired.
- Knowledge of U.S. mining environmental regulations and permitting is beneficial.
- A strong commitment to safety
- Proficiency with ArcGIS(Desktop/Pro), AutoCAD, Microsoft Office
- Experience with basic scripting using appropriate languages, such as Python, R, or similar, for GIS workflow automation preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with others in a team setting.
- Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and adjust to shifting work priorities.
Physical requirements:
- Must have the ability to perform office-related tasks which may include prolonged sitting or standing.
- Must have the ability to move from place to place within an office environment.
- Must be able to use a computer.
- Some positions may require occasional repetitive motion or movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
