Position Title: Program Leader

Organization: Hot Springs County Weed & Pest Control District

Location: Thermopolis, WY

Duties:

  • Leading seasonal crews to conduct chemical and mechanical vegetation treatments
  • Collaborating with project partners and landowners to achieve project success
  • Identifying, collecting and reporting weed infestation data using GIS/GPS technology
  • Assisting with grant writing and management including expense tracking
  • Surveying and treating for disease vector and nuisance mosquito species
  • Helping to maintain all equipment used by the district

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in Weed Science, Range Management or a closely related field is preferred but not required. Applicants are required to have a high school diploma and two years of recent experience in natural resources management or a similar field. The applicant must be willing to obtain a Wyoming commercial pesticide applicator license within six months of hire and to become certified as a Weed and Pest Supervisor within two years.An ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, the ability to work as part of a team and can interact well with the public. Excellent communication, computer and writing skills are also necessary. Experience operating a 4-wheel drive vehicle with a standard transmission, ATVs/UTVs and pulling a trailer is also desirable.This position is forty hours per week with the opportunity for approved overtime when necessary; the schedule is assigned by the District Supervisor. It includes year-round outdoor work with strenuous physical activity in inclement weather and some office/shop work depending on project needs. The ability to carry up to 50lbs while walking in rough terrain and the handling and use of pesticides are required.

Salary/Pay: $38,000
