Position Title: Zoo Educator/Naturalist

Organization: Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center

Location: West Yellowstone, MT

Position Overview:The primary responsibility for the position is speaking and interacting with visitors. Educate visitors about the animals at the GWDC and their wild counterparts in the Great Yellowstone Ecosystem through formal programs and informal interactions.  Answer related questions.  Contribute to the development of educational materials as needed.  Assist with administrative tasks.  Enforce safety guidelines. Assist with grounds upkeep in public spaces, which includes light physical activity such as sweeping, shoveling snow, or cleaning public spaces.  This position does not involve hands-on work with animals or any animal care duties. Please Note:  GWDC will be hiring for a permanent, full-time naturalist in October, and seasonal naturalists will be eligible to apply.

Qualifications: 

Required Qualifications:

  • One year of relevant job experience;
  • OR bachelor’s degree related to natural resources, environmental education, or biology;
  • AND experience demonstrating public speaking, education, and customer service skills.
  • Must be flexible to work weekends and holidays; must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience educating diverse age groups from young children to senior adults;
  • Experience in interpretation and education in a zoo setting, or around wildlife;
  • Knowledge of the Yellowstone ecosystem;
  • Completion of a relevant certification, such as NAI’s Certified Interpretive Guide.

Start/End Dates: Positions start as early as May 1, and may run through October 31.

Salary/Pay: $16.50/hour with compensated holidays
