Duties: As part of its 2017–2022 strategic plan, the University of Wyoming committed to advancing sustainability through participation in the STARS sustainability tracking system, part of the American Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE; learn more at The Office of the President and the Campus Sustainability Committee are seeking an excellent master’s student and/or advanced undergraduate students to lead campus-wide data collection for STARS during the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters. We are hiring for two student positions as part of a STARS team:

  • STARS Coordinator. This 20-hour/week position, funded by the Office of the President, is available to a graduate student who would receive a master’s-level assistantship, OR an outstanding undergraduate student who would receive a competitive stipend.
  • STARS Intern. This 8-hour/week position, funded by the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation, is available to an undergraduate or graduate student who would receive a $1,500/semester stipend.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will gather, organize, and submit sustainability data on UW academics, research, operations, planning and administration, and campus and community engagement. Data and narratives will provide the basis of UW’s STARS application to measure the university’s environmental, economic, and social sustainability activities. The successful candidate will be proficient in Excel, have excellent interpersonal skills, and be detail-oriented and a strong writer. A sincere interest in sustainability and academic or professional experience with sustainability are desired. We welcome applications from students of all backgrounds and disciplines.

The coordinator position will report to the Office of the President through the Campus Sustainability Committee, which will provide supervision and guidance for the position. The intern position will work closely with the coordinator and will report to the Campus Sustainability Committee. The successful candidates will gain exceptional professional sustainability assessment experience and be an integral part of growing the University of Wyoming’s sustainability efforts.
