Job Title: Wildlife Camera-Trapping Internship

Type of opportunity: Haub School faculty members Dr. Joe Holbrook and Dr. Drew Bennett are looking to hire an intern to help implement a pilot wildlife monitoring project on private lands in Wyoming in conjunction with the Ruckelshaus Institute’s MacMillan Private Land Stewardship Program. The goals of the project are to develop baseline data on a range of wildlife species in Wyoming and answer basic ecological and applied wildlife management research questions using motion-activated camera traps. The pilot effort will also explore the potential to scale the project to better represent the diversity of habitats on private lands in Wyoming.

  • Installing camera traps on participating properties throughout Wyoming
  • Downloading and organizing camera trap data
  • Analyzing camera trap data
  • Communicating and coordinating with participating landowners
  • Assisting with the preparation of reports and scientific articles

Desired qualifications:

  • Completion of 2 years of relevant undergraduate coursework
  • Able to commit to approximately 3 months of full-time work in the summer of 2019 (MayAugust)
  • Able to commit to continuing to analyze data and write up results during the 2019-20 academic year as a student hourly employee
  • Comfortable traveling to remote locations and working outdoors to conduct necessary fieldwork
  • Ability to interact with participating landowners in a respectful and courteous manner that facilitates collaboration and transparency
  • Self-starter with initiative who can make responsible decisions with minimal supervision

Start and end dates: May 2019 – August 2019

Salary/pay: Compensation of $12 per hour
