Job Title: Community Engagement Associate
Organization: Grand Teton National Park
Duties: Grand Teton National Park (GTNP), in Northwest Wyoming, offers unique winter habitat for wildlife ranging from moose and elk to bear and ermine. The valley attracts skiers from around the world and wildlife enthusiasts. With 11,000 years of human history as well as some of the oldest rocks on the planet, there is no shortage of fascinating stories! The Community Ambassador works with the youth program manager and staff to assist in identifying community needs in target areas of Idaho and Wyoming, identify barriers to visitation and participation in GTNP youth programs, and build community relationships that ensure all youth can enjoy and learn from Grand Teton. The work will help build park capacity to offer experiential programs to youth, particularly tribal youth and students in Title I schools. The overall goal is for more youth from around the region to have an opportunity to experience the spectacular landscape, history and nature at Grand Teton National Park. The ambassador will work closely with park staff to assure new youth programs offered are sustainable and relevant to the youth.
Desired Qualifications: Experience and coursework in youth development, education, history, natural sciences, environmental studies, biology or other related fields; proficiency with social media; oral and written communication skills; ability to create and present engaging programs and products; clears a Federal background investigation.
Desired Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, adaptive communication, multi-cultural competencies. Basic graphic design, video editing or Spanish-bilingual a plus.
Start and end dates: 9 month appointment, 40 hours/week; Feb – Oct.
Salary/pay:
- The position is based in Moose, WY, in Grand Teton National Park.
- Government housing provided for the ambassador.
- The nearest town is Jackson, WY, which has groceries, medical clinics and cultural events available throughout the year.
- Personal vehicle is required due to the remoteness of the area and lack of public transportation.
