Job Title: Research Editor & Coordinator Position

Organization: Animal Law & Policy Program

Overview: The Animal Law & Policy Program is inviting immediate applications for the full-time, temporary position of Research Editor & Coordinator. The position is expected to run for approximately three months from now until late spring. The Research Editor & Coordinator will assist with managing and drafting an ongoing research initiative studying policy responses to animal markets for both domestic animals and wildlife––sites that have been known to facilitate the transmission of zoonotic diseases like avian flu, SARS, and COVID-19.

Job Description:The goal of the project is to examine in greater detail the nexus between animal markets and zoonotic transmission, as well as to bring clarity to the public policy discourse surrounding animal markets by providing a comprehensive assessment that will aid policy makers considering regulatory decisions, contribute to public education about these issues, and serve the human health and animal protection NGO communities. The study will provide a comparative, in-depth assessment of the policy challenges surrounding animal markets, both in the U.S. and internationally, identifying best practices and offering system-wide recommendations. Over a dozen institutional partners are collaborating on the project representing a broad range of regions and cultures.

Duties: The Research Editor & Coordinator will report directly to Research Fellow Ann Linder and will be responsible for drafting, editing, and coordinating research with international collaborators as well as student research assistants. Candidates should have strong writing and editing skills. A JD or background in animal policy is beneficial but not required. Experience in any of the following fields is particularly relevant: veterinary medicine, public health or “one health,” wildlife policy, or animal science.

Salary/pay: $30/hr

Application Deadline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so candidates are encouraged to submit their materials as soon as possible. Work will commence as soon as a candidate is selected. All work will be performed remotely.
