Position Overview: Quebec 01 Missile Alert Facility State Historic Site is authorized to hire up to 3 seasonal positions. Be a part of a new and exciting Historic Site for Wyoming State Parks & Historic Sites.  Quebec 01 Missile Alert Facility was built as a Minuteman I Site in 1962 and became part of the Peacekeeper System in 1986. This Site is the only remaining Missile Alert Facility for the Peacekeeper System available to the public.  Assist with tours, exhibits, and merchandise sales to create a one of a kind visitor experience.

There are two different types of seasonal positions to be filled as part of this announcement:

Museum Education Assistant (2)

This position will assist the Superintendent with customer service, education, and exhibit aspects of running the Quebec 01 Missile Alert Facility State Historic Site. Many of the duties involved in this position are shared duties with the Superintendent and other employees. The schedule requires some flexibility; weekends and some holidays are required. This position requires the employee to be available to work the site both with and in the Superintendent’s absence. Having prior museum experience is a plus.  

Maintenance Assistant (1)

This position will assist the Superintendent with all customer service and maintenance aspects of running the Quebec 01 Missile Alert Facility State Historic Site.  Many of the duties involved in this position are shared duties with the Superintendent and other employees.  The schedule requires some flexibility,  weekends and some holidays required.  This position requires the employee to be available to work the site both with and in the Superintendent’s absence.  

The actual length of employment will vary.

Duties:

The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

Quebec 01 Museum Education Assistant:  

  • Present interpretive programs such as historical tours explaining the history of this historic site and leading school tours and other institutional tours.
  • Greet visitors, collect admission fees, collect gift shop fees, reconcile cash register at shift end and assist with gift shop inventory.
  • Be able to add to and pull reservations for Capsule tours.
  • Answer the phone and keep messages.
  • Keep Superintendent advised of all issues with the site, including leaks, bird issues, disgruntled visitors, etc.
  • Work with volunteers on various projects and duties.
  • Housekeeping duties: Cleaning as needed, including dusting, vacuuming and arranging of furniture. Clean public restrooms as needed.
  • Outdoor duties: Assist with outdoor landscape maintenance as needed, snow shoveling.
  • Educational programming duties include: Assist and add value to current educational programming. Expand, create and execute educational programming, including, but not limited to:  internet media, offsite programming, and onsite programming—promotion and scheduling of school and adult tours.
  • Research and exhibit development: Assist with research and exhibit development.
  • Social Media management, including the regular posting of information and events.
  • Perform opening and closing duties as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist all sites in the  Laramie District with special projects and events.

Quebec 01 Maintenance Assistant:   

  • Outdoor duties: Perform routine building, grounds and landscape maintenance, minor carpentry repairs, painting, and mowing. Operate and/or drive a variety of vehicles, light and heavy equipment. Operate various maintenance equipment, such as mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, and other equipment required for daily operations.
  • Maintenance duties: Maintain all equipment on-site regularly including, but not limited to the boiler, water heater, changing filters, vehicles, air conditioner, and checking fire extinguishers.  Keep maintenance schedules for work to be done at the site with A/C, boilers, elevator, sewage lagoons, etc. Keep Superintendent informed of all maintenance issues.
  • Follow proper handling and safety procedures involving cleaning chemicals and fuel products encountered in daily operations, including proper Personal Protective Equipment usage.
  • Housekeeping duties: Cleaning as needed, including dusting, vacuuming and arranging of furniture. Clean public restrooms as needed. Remove litter from grounds, parking lots, and other public areas.
  • Facilitate adult and school tours.
  • Greet visitors, collect admission fees, collect gift shop fees, be backup for the reconciled cash register at shift end.
  • Be able to add to and pull reservations for Capsule tours.
  • Answer the phone and keep messages.
  • Work with volunteers on various projects and duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist all sites in the  Laramie District with special projects and events.

Qualifications:For all seasonal positions, preference will be given to applicants who are professional while providing excellent customer service.  

**Must have a valid driver’s license. 
**Must be at least 16 years of age.  

  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and thorough in completing assignments/tasks.
  • Good interpersonal skills allowing the ability to interact with visitors from around the world.
  • Willingness to work on a variety of assignments every day.
  • Experience in handling money, cash registers, and retail sales.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage and complete multiple projects with variable timelines and scopes of work.
  • Basic construction and maintenance knowledge.
  • Basic operational knowledge of light and heavy equipment use, as well as hand and power tools.
  • Basic safety awareness of equipment use.
  • Must work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, with or without assistance.

Salary/pay:$9-$14 hourly
