Job Title:First-Year Experience (FYE) Fellow

Organization: Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources

Location: Laramie, WY

The Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources seeks a motivated graduate-level student or recent graduate to support programming, courses, events, and activities for first-year undergraduate students during the fall 2022 semester.

Position Description

The Haub School First-Year Experience (FYE) Fellow will support incoming first-year undergraduate students beginning their college careers at the University of Wyoming, studying and/or interested in the programs of the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. We are proud of our strong retention rates and our holistic approach to student services and success; as we expand these efforts and serve more students, we seek someone passionate about supporting students in their transition to college, creating an inclusive and welcoming community, building concrete and holistic skills for success, teaching from a position of passion and engagement, and applying place-based education principles in a democratic learning environment.

Working alongside Haub School faculty member Maggie Bourque, the FYE Fellow will help design, plan, and implement a range of academic, professional, and holistic experiences for first year students, including co-instruction of a weekly First-Year Experience course. The fellow will have the option to enroll in an independent study course, ENR 5890 Environmental Pedagogy, to earn graduate credit for their experiences if desired.

Compensation & Eligibility

The successful applicant will receive a $5,000 stipend with the expectation of working ≤ 10 hours week (not to exceed 200 hours total) August 10-December 16, 2022.

The successful applicant must be eligible to work up to 10 hours/week, receiving payment from UW in Fall 2022 (note that this likely excludes fully-funded graduate students in formal teaching or research assistant positions). At minimum, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree conferred by August 2022; preference will be given to those pursuing or holding a graduate degree or with significant relevant experience.

No specific areas of study are required; preference will be given to those with experience or interest in environmental, natural resource, sustainability, and/or outdoor recreation-related fields. Strong preference will be given to those with some experience in educational program design, instruction, and/or mentorship at the secondary or post-secondary level.

The FYE Fellow will need to be available in-person in Laramie beginning August 15 and continuing through the fall semester; FYE class sessions meet weekly on Wednesdays from 12-12:50pm.
