Position Title: Sustainability and Campus Projects Coordinator

Organization: Randolph College

Location: Lynchburg, VA

Organization Overview: Randolph College has an immediate opening for a full-time Sustainability and Campus Projects Coordinator. The Sustainability and Campus Projects Coordinator works collaboratively with the College’s administration, faculty, staff, and students to plan, develop, and implement strategies for advancing the College’s commitment to campus and community sustainability. This position will also be responsible for assisting the Vice President for Finance and Administration with overseeing campus utilities including monitoring of assigned operating budgets and preparation of periodic utilities expense forecasting.

Position Overview: The Coordinator helps guide the Campus Sustainability Council, and is responsible for keeping administration advised of significant changes in environmental laws and regulations that may affect College policies, require the implementation of new policies, or affect operating budgets. The Coordinator also supervises student interns and work-study and manages the Randolph College Organic Garden and Orchard. The Coordinator is expected to seek opportunities for networking and professional development through the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) and other professional organizations, and pursue external funding opportunities as appropriate.


  • Implement and assess the progress and effectiveness of the Randolph College Sustainability Plan
  • Serve as an ex officio co-Chair of the Sustainability Council. Coordinate with co-Chair to facilitate Council meetings and activities. Report any changes in sustainability programs and resources and relevant Buildings and Grounds projects
  • Compile an annual greenhouse gas inventory and update the College’s progress on the President’s Climate Resilience and Carbon Commitments publicly on the reporting website
  • Prepare stormwater management reporting in compliance with City requirements
  • Manage campus sustainability commitments and maintain certifications through reporting and renewal applications, including Bee Campus USA and Tree Campus USA
  • Support Institutional Advancement and Admissions activities through outreach opportunities, events, creating materials to share the College’s sustainability initiatives with prospective students, alumni, and potential donors
  • Develop and manage orientation and student engagement activities related to campus sustainability
  • Pursue external funding opportunities, including grant writing and grant reporting, for sustainability initiatives, in coordination with Development staff and the Grants Coordinator
  • Work with Human Resources to hire and supervise work study student positions to assist with tasks including data input, Organic Garden Care, and Bike Share bike maintenance.
  • Develop annual utility budgets and provide regular updates on utility consumption. Assist with obtaining bids and contracting energy supply
  • Manage maintenance operations and projects related to energy savings such as U.S. Green Building Council and LEED certification, the College’s green revolving loan fund, and infrastructure improvements
  • Maintain and update content for the sustainability webpage and social media
  • Supervise the College’s bike share program, including bike maintenance and working with the reception desk to organize student usage
  • Oversee the Rummage Room activities by securing interns, supporting student involvement, and organizing donations
  • Manage the Organic Garden and Orchard, coordinate the daily care of garden livestock, and teach an organic gardening physical education course in sessions 1 and 4.
  • Manage the Front Campus Pollinator Garden, including Earth Day outreach activities, annual care, and plantings.
  • Work with the Vice President for Finance and Administration to investigate all possible means for sustainable options in new construction and renovation projects on campus.
  • Supervise several interns each academic term on campus sustainability projects.


  • Undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Sustainability, or another relevant discipline. Masters degree preferred but not required.
  • Relevant experience with campus sustainability projects and administrative assistance.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, including comfort with bridging different perspectives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and social media platforms
  • Strong technical, quantitative, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently while managing multiple assignments.
