Position Title: Albany County Sustainability Intern

Position Description: Albany County, in partnership with the Laramie Climate Acton Planning Coalition is excited to expand its capacity with YOU this summer and fall! We are seeking a personable, knowledgeable, and reliable individual to identify key areas of improvement in Albany County buildings and facilities. Working in partnership with the City of Laramie Climate Action and Sustainability Graduate Research Assistant, this intern will help save the County money AND reduce the County’s overall carbon footprint.

Responsibilities Include:
- Perform a county-wide energy audit to identify areas of improvement. Incorporate findings from annual emissions inventory to form a complete picture of needs and opportunities.
- Remediate low-efficiency infrastructure wherever able. Document a “wish list” of more costly or technically demanding improvements for future remediation.
- Coordinate technical audits including, but not limited to, energy audits of County buildings with Rocky Mountain Power.
- Increase personal knowledge and understanding of key sustainability issues and draw connections to the on-the-ground reality in Albany County. Workshops and webinars through ICLEI.
- In partnership with City and County personnel, prioritize improvements and develop corresponding implementation plans.
- Regularly report findings, recommendations, and accomplishments to the Albany County board of Commissioners.
- By the end of the internship, the intern will deliver a list of completed sustainability improvements, the impact (real or projected) of these improvements, and a written report of recommended future improvements. This report will be presented to the board of commissioners.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic working knowledge of sustainability practices.
- Self motivated to get tasks done in a timely way with limited supervision.
- Written and verbal communication – intern will need to work cooperatively with various county staff at multiple levels and for multiple purposes.
- Physical ability to lift 30 pounds and climb ladders.
Required Education and Experience
- Some college/post-secondary education. Bachelors degree or enrollment in bachelors degree preferred.
- Relevant coursework or practical experience in sustainability, facilities and operations, or public administration.
Compensation
- Starting pay for this position is $14-$17/hour depending on experience.
Additional Information
- Dates & Hours: Fall Semester, 2023, up to 15 hours/week.
- Possibility to extend into 2024, depending on budgetary constraints.
- Eligible for practicum or internship credit for UW Haub School degree programs.
