Position Title: Summer Research Assistant 

Organization: Haub School of Environment & Natural Resources, University of Wyoming 

Position Description: Dr. Corrine Noel Knapp is recruiting a Research Assistant to work on a project exploring the mental models of an interdisciplinary group of scholars at the University of Wyoming related to changing water availability and impacts in the Wyoming. The student’s project will entail conducting interviews with researchers from different disciplines who are engaged with a large interdisciplinary effort. The main aims of this work are to answer the following: 1) How do disciplinary team members conceptualize the focal system and what are the implications for co-production of integrated models? And 2) How can the process of sharing and reflecting on our mental models improve the accuracy and utility of integrated social-environmental systems models?

Ideal candidates for this position will possess outstanding written and oral communication skills, have experience collaborating and/or working as part of a team, and will have experience conducting qualitative research. Candidates should have an interest in interdisciplinary work and modeling efforts. Candidates should have a strong interest in social science research methods, show creative and flexible thinking, and be self-motivated and able to work independently with guidance and support from project collaborators.

Timeline: Research will occur during the summer of 2021. Ideally, the majority of interviews will be conducted in June, with analysis in July and preliminary write up in August. I am estimating about 200 hours (or 10 weeks PT) work for this project.

Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants with experience in social sciences and experience or interest in interdisciplinary research and integrated modelling. Applicants will be considered who have a BA or BS in any field, but preference will be given to those with a graduate degree.  A record of effective collaboration and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team is essential for this position.

Salary: $20/hour
