Position Title: Seasonal Interpreter – Southwest WY

Organization Overview: Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites, and Trails protect and enhance the natural and cultural environment by providing enjoyable, educational and inspiring experiences for present and future generations.

Position Overview: The Shoshone District in southwest Wyoming is seeking two seasonal interpreters for the summer of 2023.  Primarily located at Fort Bridger State Historic Site, but may be asked to serve at other locations throughout the Shoshone District including, but not limited to, South Pass City State Historic Site, Sinks Canyon State Park, Bear River State Park, and Seminoe State Park. Housing is provided.

Duties:

  • Greet visitors and provide excellent customer service.
  • Answer visitor questions, and provide pertinent information about the site, including interpretation and orientation of facilities and local points of interest.
  • Perform programs, guided hikes, hands-on activities, and other personal interpretations.
  • Assist with special projects and events.
  • Assist in the creation of social media, outreach, and other non-personal content.
  • Responsible for administrating, restocking, and tracking program inventory.
  • Answer a multi-line telephone system transferring calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with general administrative duties, reports, and data entry.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, as well as janitorial services and maintenance as needed.
  • May be required to assist with cleaning or feeding/watering live animal exhibits, including snakes and other reptile terrariums.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, with or without assistance
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and thorough in completing assignments/tasks
  • Good interpersonal skills allow the ability to interact with visitors from around the world
  • Willingness to work on a variety of assignments every day
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to manage and complete multiple projects with variable timelines and scopes of work
  • Basic operational knowledge of light equipment use, as well as hand and power tools
  • Basic safety awareness of equipment use

Start/End Dates: May 15 -September 15

Salary/Pay: $12-$15
