Water Quality Division Internships (Cheyenne, WY)

Water and Wastewater Section Intern Intern to help with Source Water Protection Planning (geologist or biologist); proactively work with utilities around the state to identify actions that can be taken at the watershed scale to protect surface water and groundwater sources of drinking water in Wyoming. Intern to help with Operator Certification Program (work to help make sure qualified individuals are operating Wyoming’s drinking water and wastewater treatment plants; general science or engineering background).

Groundwater Section Intern Intern to help with all aspects of programs within the Groundwater Section: summer groundwater sampling (field work), data management experience, GIS data projects; assist with minor permitting actions (e.g., rule-authorized permits); (geology background preferred but all would benefit most interested in any general science field). Intern to help with the Safe Drinking Water Act Class VI Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program. This intern would assist with addressing inquiries on Class VI permitting, evaluating program needs for Class VI projects, reviewing permit applications, assisting in issuing permits, monitoring, and reporting.

Watershed Section Intern Assist with implementation of Wyoming’s TMDL and Assessment Program, including compiling and evaluating water quality data and providing GIS support including preparing maps and figures for presentations and documents developed by the program. Assist with field reconnaissance visits and water quality monitoring activities. Conduct literature reviews to assist with development of water quality assessment methods. Assist with maintaining Wyoming’s version of ATTAINS (Assessment and Total Maximum Daily Load Tracking and Implementation System).

Abandoned Mine Lands Internship  (Lander, WY)

This internship is located in Lander, WY for a student with GIS skills. GIS tasks will include a variety of digital mapping products for internal and public use:

  • Digitizing tabular and spatial data gathered from electronic reports and plan sets, as well as historic paper maps;
  • Assist in compilation of existing GIS and CAD data;
  • Apply strong cartographic principles;
  • Support development of web-based solutions such as internal and public map applications and dashboards;
  • Assisting in development and implementation of GIS policies and procedures.

Other duties:

  • Electronic records management assistance to support development of GIS data:
    • Assist with organizing electronic reports for AML’s library;
    • Scanning of hard copy reports and project records for inclusion in the AML Library and GIS.

Qualifications: Must have documented computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe. Experience managing databases a plus. Documented proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS products; including academic coursework, previous GIS internships, and/or GIS certifications (GISCI, ESRI, etc.).
